AMES, Iowa -- Ames police say two officers who were on administrative law after they shot at a suspect are back on patrol and cleared of the incident.
Officers Patrick O'Bryan and Joshua Vander Zwaag were reinstated after the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation finished its probe into the Aug. 7 shooting. County attorney Stephen Holmes' review of the department's findings found the officers' use of deadly force was justified.
Police say the officers opened fire on 40-year-old Julian Kral of New Ulm, Minn., after he allegedly drove at them during an early morning traffic stop Tuesday. Kral was wounded and released from the hospital. The officers were not hurt.
Kral faces charges including assaulting a police officer, disarming a police officer and eluding a police officer.
