ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Cooking is the leading cause of residential fires in Minnesota. Knowing what to do if a fire starts in the kitchen, and following some basic prevention guidelines can prevent injury and damage, and even save lives!

Come learn kitchen fire safety information and literally "feel the heat" of a kitchen fire at a community event on Saturday, May 5.

KARE 11 is teaming up with fire fighters, fire marshals and inspectors from around Minnesota to teach community kitchen fire safety.

--Saturday, May 5
--11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
--St. Paul Fire Station #1 (1000 West 7th Street, St. Paul)
--Free, on-street parking available around station.

This free community open house will include demonstrations from the kitchen fire safety trailer, information on products to prevent kitchen fires, fire station tours, fire extinguisher training, and more.

The event is free, family friendly and open to the entire community.
