GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - With the recent boom in craft beers in Minnesota, KARE 11 needs your help to name a new brew.
The folks at Lucid Brewing are teaming up with KARE 11 to make a special limited edition Saison just in time for summer.
But first, it needs a name! Ideas were submitted on Twitter using the hashtag #KAREbrew. More than 150 suggestions were pared down to six finalists.
Voting has begun to pick the winner. To vote, check out the poll on the KARE 11 Facebook page. The name with the most votes wins and will be bestowed upon the new brew.
The winner will be invited to KARE 11 Studios to announce the winning name on KARE 11 News at 10 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8.
The new brew will be available at select liquor stores, bars and restaurants in the Twin Cities in early June. Lucid co-owners Eric Biermann and Jon Messier say part of the proceeds will be donated to local charities.
So, what's Saison? BeerAdvocate.com describes it as "sturdy farmhouse ale that was traditionally brewed in the winter, to be consumed throughout the summer months. Not so long ago it was close to being an endangered style, but over recent years there's been a massive revival; especially in the U.S. This is a very complex style; many are very fruity in the aroma and flavor. Look for earthy yeast tones, mild to moderate tartness. Lots of spice and with a medium bitterness. They tend to be semi-dry with many only having touch of sweetness."
